She is the parent of four adult children, three of whom came to her family by adoption. She is committed to openness and honesty in the adoption processes because she believes it serves the best interests of all involved.

Her long-term established professional relationships with honest and reputable adoption agencies and attorneys who provide domestic and international adoption services are an important feature of her social work practice. She is knowledgeable of and experienced in the requirements and process for independent adoptions, step-parent adoptions, relative adoptions and co-parent adoptions as well as international adoptions and domestic adoptions through agencies.

Ms. Lichen gives pre-adoptive parent seminars on the kinds of adoption, and education needed to make sound decisions for an inter-cultural adoption, a domestic and foreign adoption, of adoption of infants as well as older children from foster care. Importantly, she helps families understand adoption as a life-long process.

She is the current President of the New Mexico Adoption and Foster Care Alliance of New Mexico (www.adoptfostercarealliancenm.org) and past Vice President. She is active on the legislative sub committee of this organization that works to improve adoption laws in the State of New Mexico.
